Responsibilities

Economics: The teacher should teach four classes of a combination of Economics and possibly other Group 3 subjects.
Course Content and Assessment: The teacher is responsible for covering the required course content. Also, for assessing student performance based upon a standard set of requirements and criteria provided by the IB.

Extended Essays: All teachers must supervise Extended Essays (EE). The EEs are research topics developed by students which results in an essay of approximately 4,000 words. It involves four to six hours of work for the supervisor. Additionally, there are three mandatory reflection sessions. Teachers have to supervise Extended Essays in subjects that they do not teach if there are not any in their given subject.

Grades and Reports: The teacher will compile grades and write a narrative report for each student in their classes. Also, the teachers are to track attendance in the approved school platforms.

Invigilation: During trial examinations teachers must invigilate their own exams and, during the IB examinations in May, full-time teachers must invigilate approximately 12 hours of exams.

References and Recommendations: All faculty should write letters of recommendation to colleges and universities on behalf of their students, at the student’s request.

Additional Duties

  • Full-time faculty serve as official advisors to a group of 10-12 students.
  • Additionally, all faculty members each year sponsor two activities that fulfill the ExEd requirements of UWC-USA.
  • Also, at the end of each session they are responsible for writing a narrative report that explains the activity and, the contributions of individual students. Faculty also assist with student generation of digital portfolios. In addition, all faculty should participate in UWC Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and the Annual Conference.
  • Likewise, they shall assist in transporting students. All faculty should follow UWC-USA’s Vehicle Safety Policy.
  • Similarly, all faculty members should involve in residential life during their tenure at UWC-USA. All faculty who receive school-supplied housing should accept appointments serving as a Resident Tutor or Assistant Resident Tutor for two (2) consecutive years on a rotating cycle or as needed.
  •  Also, all faculty and staff who have school-provided housing (regardless of the location of that housing) must assist with weekend duty up to five weekends per year.
  • Furthermore, they should attend all faculty meetings, department meetings, and the weekly assembly (Forum).
