About this Role:
The Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology and Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory offers a three-year residency, which fulfills, in part, ACVP board eligibility requirements. Those who are qualified and choose to pursue graduate studies subsequent to residency training are encouraged to do so through the College of Veterinary Medicine graduate programs. One or more additional years are usually needed to complete requirements for the M.S. degree.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Residents will participate in and support clinical pathology service activities, principally cytology, hematology, urinalysis, and clinical chemistry consultation. Residents will interact with faculty, technologists, and students in other areas such as microbiology, immunology, and anatomic pathology.
- Additionally, residents will effectively communicate test results and interpretations of the university and private practitioners.
- Also, after obtaining sufficient proficiency, residents will be available by phone to consult with night clinical pathology interns or clinicians regarding night or weekend laboratory requests.
- Likewise, residents will be available for after-hours requests for the analysis of samples that require the input of a clinical pathologist.
- Also, they will be the primary contact for cytology, some hematology, chemistry, and cross-matches
- Additionally, they should help mentor KSVDL interns while in the clinical pathology laboratory.
- Residents should assist faculty members in teaching all clinical pathology courses in the veterinary curriculum.
- Furthermore, after the demonstration of ability, they will present didactic lectures to veterinary students and lead case-based learning sessions.
Qualifications:
- D.V.M. or equivalent degree
- All KSVDL Medical Residents must pursue Kansas State Veterinary Licensure through the Kansas Board of Veterinary Examiners
- International students must demonstrate proficiency in English by earning a satisfactory score on the TOEFL Or
- demonstrate proficiency during an interview
- This position requires citizenship of the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, nationals of the US, and aliens authorized to work in the U.S. at the time of application. At this time, we regret that we cannot accept applicants outside these countries.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A year of post-DVM clinical or diagnostic experience is desirable, but not required
- Applicants who also intend to enter graduate studies and pursue an academic career may be given preference
