The Counselor will be responsible for assisting with daily operations of the department, including counseling students, responding to emergency situations, and coordinating and presenting educational programs. This position reports to the Director of Counseling Services and is scheduled to work on an academic year calendar (approximately 9 months), and is eligible for most full-time benefits.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide short-term individual counseling to students in need, both on an individual basis and in group settings; conduct initial intakes and maintain records.
- Additionally, the incumbent will facilitate group counseling on current, persistent, and/or challenging campus issues; coordinate outreach and liaison services for those who need further assistance.
- Also, he/she will manage crisis intervention, including tracking, monitoring, and follow-up as needed.
- Likewise, the candidate will work closely with faculty and staff to provide resources to students where appropriate.
- Develop and maintain relationships with various campus groups, including international students, campus ministries, and other student support services.
- Additionally, he/she will work with the Residence Life staff to address issues, including student discipline through Public Safety; provide applicable education, information, and support to the student Resident Advisors.
- Monitor and record departmental data including health insurance information, student visits, mental and physical health programming, and annual summary documents; produce reports as needed.
- Furthermore, consult with medical personnel if appropriate; coordinate and execute the annual flu vaccination clinic.
Education/Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related field required
- Also, the candidate must have experience working with clients in a psychiatric setting
- Ability to work non-traditional hours and be “on-call” for crisis intervention
- Additionally, comprehensive counseling experience required along with working knowledge of addiction issues
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, employees, and the university community in the delivery of counseling services
- Also, demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student body
