Essential Functions:
The Research Scholar will lead or contribute to projects related to: (1) Russian WMD nonproliferation and disarmament policy and policy making, broadly and with special reference to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA); (2) the geopolitical, regional, and domestic challenges regarding the non-use, nonproliferation, and disarmament of all classes of WMD in MENA; as well as (3) the strategic and tactical implications of (1) and (2) for US policy. This is a full-time staff position.
General Responsibilities:
- Conduct research projects in the area of proliferation and other topics relevant to nonproliferation issues.
- Additionally, monitor, analyze, and provide commentary on historical WMD nonproliferation issues in Iraq and the Middle East.
- Prepare reports as needed.

Education:
PhD in international relations/security or commensurate professional experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent writing skills and demonstrated scholarship on WMD and regional security
- Furthermore, fluency in Russia, Arabic, and English
- Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills
- Also, the ability to serve as a principal investigator and successfully lead teams on projects with complex organizational requirements
- Ability to direct working groups, organize conferences, and manage complex research projects

- Established professional network, especially in Russia and the Middle East

Experience
- Minimum of five years professional experience working on relevant policy issues, as reflected in employment, research, publications, conference participation, and Track 1.5/Track 2 diplomacy

- Employment history demonstrating intellectual leadership and fundraising experience
