The primary function of a Police Telecommunicator is to receive and prioritize Emergency 9-1-1 and non-emergency telephone calls from the public. Additionally, the incumbent dispatches appropriate emergency service agencies such as police, fire, and emergency medical units. Moreover, the candidate monitors public safety units in the field. Also, he/she retrieves and enters computer data for emergency response personnel within the service area. Likewise, answer administrative telephone lines, enters information into a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, and process non-emergency and routine requests for police, security, and technical support services.

Pay Basis
Salary $30,000 to $34,000
Commensurate with Certification and Experience

Duties

  • Answers Emergency 911 and non-emergency telephone calls for police, security, and technical support events and services.
  • Also, the candidate enters information concerning calls for technical support and security related patrol activity into a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to be forwarded to the appropriate police dispatch station for assignment.
  • Furthermore, he/she monitors CCTV for situations indicating a need for law enforcement or security response and forwards the information to the appropriate police dispatch station to initiate a proper response.
  • Likewise, the incumbent composes and distributes shift and found property logs, and performs other police communication center paperwork.
  • Additionally, other duties as assigned. Performing responsible communications, dispatching, and related work for the Tyler Junior College Police Department.

Qualifications for Vacancy for Telecommunications Officer

  • Telecommunication Officer – Experience in customer service or related field.
  • One year as a licensed telecommunicator-Telecommunication Officer I
  • Two years as a licensed telecommunicator-Telecommunication Officer II
  • Four years as a licensed telecommunicator-Telecommunication Officer III
  • Eight years as a licensed telecommunicator-Telecommunication Officer IV

Expectations

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Will have contact – in person, by email, or by phone – with staff, students, and the general public.
  • Moreover, the candidate must exhibit sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.
