About position

The World Food Programme (WFP) is looking for a highly motivated, qualified and experienced officer to serve as Consultant – Agile Coach in the projects and operations of the WPF. Based on the headquarter of WFP at Rome, the position holder helps WFP embrace agile as a culture shift facilitating the organizational culture change necessary for sustained agile success and encouraging buy-in from team members, stakeholders, and senior management.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Partner with teams to provide hands-on coaching, support, and guidance on all aspects of Agile/Scrum practices, ceremonies, and tools by drawing from personal experience as Product Owner or/or Scrum Master.
  • Use coaching techniques that increase collaboration, predictability, transparency and promotes a culture that embraces change and values experimentation and innovation.
  • Lead Agile training sessions and provide ongoing education and support needed for successful Agile adoption.
  • Evaluate a Product Team’s operational health (e.g. team dynamics, agile delivery, product awareness) in order to identify an opportunity for improvements, and help these teams mature their practices and more effectively embrace an agile and product mindset.
  • Capture feedback and continuously improve Agile guidance, training materials, and content;
  • Serve as a change agent and servant thought leader by leveraging Agile skills and leadership experience to influence change across the organization;
  • Adhere to Agile best practices and standards by participating in Agile communities of practices and forums to stay abreast on the latest trends and practices;
  • Demonstrate a strong Agile mentality: be collaborative and demonstrate all of the necessary agile behaviors (trust, honesty, integrity, transparency, supportive, etc.) when undertaking the role;
  • Other related duties, as required.

Required qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent working experience, preferably an advanced level.
  • Agile Coach certifications (e.g. CTC, CEC, CST)
  • At least five years of experience in the use of Agile/Scrum methodologies and supporting tools, including acting as Scrum Master or Product Owner.
  • At least three years’ experience in developing and delivering classroom-based training/workshops and hands-on team coaching in Agile and Scrum
  • Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum
  • Experience as an Agile Coach, coaching at least 10 teams with a distributed composition (some team members on-site, others off-site)
  • Experience working in organizations that apply: DevOps, Continuous Integration & Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), and Human-Centred Design (HCD)
  • Knowledge of testing best practices such as behavior-driven development (BDD) and test-driven development (TDD)
  • Experience as a Scrum Master and/or Product Owner
  • Knowledge of Agile software development and related tools (e.g. Jira, Azure DevOps)
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Interpersonal skills and patience
  • Lead, or facilitate discussions on Agile best practices, workflows, and tool usage.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is essential. Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.
