Development Officer, Eastern Region, position is available at World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world’s leading conservation organization. Based in Washington, DC, the Development Officer will play a key role in helping to expand WWF’s major gift fundraising in 17 states and DC, working closely with program as well as development colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 100+ including a mix of individuals qualified to make a gift of $100,000 or more, prospects and suspects in qualification.
  • Cultivate ongoing relationships between donors, prospective donors and WWF to build a robust donor base in the Eastern Region.
  • Also, develop and execute solicitation strategies for qualified prospects.
  • Develop strategies to attract new major donors and raise visibility for WWF in the Eastern Region.
  • Work with donors to host events besides serving as ambassadors for WWF.
  • Qualify prospects for interest in giving to WWF and capacity to give at the major or principal gift level through substantive contacts and visits.
  • Similarly, work and travel with program staff to plan and conduct visits, presentations, and events.
  • Collaborate with development communications to produce proposals, reports and other donor materials as needed.
  • Collaborate with the development events team to plan and execute events.
  • Likewise, may accompany donors and prospective donors on trips to visit WWF projects in the field, as requested.
  • Monitor giving from the managed portfolio and ensure all assigned donors are solicited for annual commitments, as well as major, multi-year commitments.
  • Work with Director, Eastern Region to assess results and project future portfolio goals and activities.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Must have at least 5 years development experience with a minimum of three years major gift fundraising experience.
  • Passion for WWF’s mission and knowledge of conservation issues is preferrable.
  • A successful track record of securing gifts from major gift donors and working with volunteers.
  • Moreover, must be flexible, responsible, and able to balance a variety of activities and work as an effective member of a team.
  • Excellent writing, speaking, and organizational skills.
  • Furthermore, proven ability to manage projects, set priorities, and work within deadlines.
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time.
