Department: Economic Commission for Africa
•Develops socio-economic databases and qualitative information necessary for specified recurrent or ad hoc assignments.
•Additionally, the incumbent interprets applies and, as necessary, adapts econometric models to determine trends, patterns, and relationships and to analyze the effects of alternative policies and assumptions.
•Also, drafts specified inputs for technical papers and analytical studies on selected global, regional, national, or sector aspects of economic development.
•Furthermore, he/she identifies and analyses policy proposals made elsewhere relating to assigned topics.
He/she attends international, regional, and national meetings to collect information and to hold discussions with colleagues in other institutions.
•Likewise, he/she prepares inputs for reports to intergovernmental bodies.
•Furthermore, the candidate follows intergovernmental meetings and prepares summary reports.
•Prepares inputs to statements by members of the Bureau and Secretariat staff to such meetings.
•Additionally, he/she assists in the organization of panels as well as round tables, etc. on development issues for intergovernmental processes.
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics or related field is required. Additionally, a first-level university degree in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programs with a focus on regional integration and trade-related issues. Additionally, this experience should include a minimum of two years of relevant experience in international economics, regional integration, and trade-related issues.
Also, experience in trade negotiations and working with regional economic communities as well as exposure to inter-governmental processes is an advantage. Furthermore, good evidence of publications on regional integration as well as trade-related issues is an advantage.
Additionally, a strong background in econometrics modelling especially GTAP models and statistics as applied to regional integration and trade-related issues is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Furthermore, for the post advertised fluency in oral and written French. Likewise, knowledge of English is an advantage. Also, knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
