Greenhouse gas analyst jobs at FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations)

About Position

FAO is seeking dynamic and highly qualified Gas Analyst to examine the Greenhouse effect and analyze the gases.  The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the EPIC Team leader and direct supervision of the EX-ACT coordinator.

In particular, the key accountabilities of the incumbent include

  • Contribute to programming, designing, testing, debugging and maintaining the EXACT model.
  • Prepare clear technical documentation for developed new modules of EXACT in order to facilitate systems development and maintenance.
  • Provide GHG appraisal and report delivery (on project and value chain). Moreover, work includes data collection on-field or work desk and GHG appraisal report with economic and financial analysis as required.
  • Provide technical support on EX-ACT tools as well as support upgrading of current EX-ACT suite of tools.
  • Establish and manage relations with external partners, including UN agencies, intergovernmental organizations, NGOs, national institutions, academic and research organizations.
  • In addition to that, perform other tasks as required.

Minimum requirements

In order to be fit for the role, the ideal candidate must have the following qualifications

  • Advanced university degree (for Consultants) / University degree (for PSA) in agricultural sciences, forestry, environmental sciences, agribusiness management, economics or closely related field.
    • For Consultants/PSA level B: Advanced university degree (the Ph.D. level considered an asset).
    • For Consultants/PSA level C: Advanced university degree (Master level considered an asset).
  • Relevant experience in climate change mitigation, GHG analysis in the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector
    • For Consultants/PSA level B: at least five years of relevant experience.
    • For Consultants/PSA level C: one to four years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of one of the other languages of the Organization (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese or Russian).
  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work as well as a minimum of 1 year of experience in using advanced Excel.
