Position: Assistant Professor of Chemistry

About Pacific Lutheran University

Pacific Lutheran University is a private Lutheran University in Parkland, Washington. PLU consists of the College of Arts and Sciences (including of the Divisions of Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences), the School of Arts and Communication, the School of Business, the School of Education and Kinesiology, and the School of Nursing. As of 2017, the school employs approximately 220 full-time professors on the 156-acre (630,000 m²) woodland campus. Following, there are more than 3,000 students in PCU commencing higher studies in a wide range of faculties.

About position

The Department of Chemistry at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) invites applicants to apply for the tenure-track position in the Chemistry. S/he will be accountable for teaching responsibilities primarily in instrumental analysis and that potentially include analytical chemistry and other upper and lower-division courses.

In particular, the incumbent will do the following functions

  • Teach instrumental analysis lecture and lab courses (CHEM 420), possibly other upper-division courses within the successful applicant’s area of expertise, and general chemistry lecture and lab. At the same time, establish a vibrant, externally funded research program involving undergraduate students.
  • Contribute to the University, Division of Natural Sciences, and Chemistry Department through scholarship activities and service.
  • Additional responsibilities will include mentoring/advising as well as service on academic committees.
  • Furthermore, candidates must complete any additional duties assigned by the Department or administration.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry by September 1, 2020. However, candidates must ABD qualification by September 1, 2020, can also apply.
  • In addition to academic qualification, experience working with or teaching diverse groups including women and members of underrepresented minority groups.
  • Ability to teach instrumental analysis, advanced courses in their area of expertise, and general chemistry.
  • Show promise as innovative and effective classroom instruction.
  • Similarly, ability, knowledge, and skill to successfully teach diverse groups, including women and members of underrepresented minority groups in a university setting.
  • Commitment to engaging undergraduates in research experiences as part of their scholarship.
  • Furthermore, capable to fully contribute to the department and the University by working with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
