Mediation Officer position is available at the World Bank office in Washington.

Mediation Services (MEF) is an independent, informal and confidential service within the World Bank Group (WBG) whose purpose is to facilitate effective communication among staff members and assist them in reaching mutually acceptable solutions to work place issues or concerns affecting them. MEF is one of several Internal Justice Services (IJS) available to WBG staff. MEF is seeking a qualified professional for a full-time position as Mediation Officer. He/she will carry out his or her substantive duties under the direction of the Manager, Mediation Services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mediate and manage cases from intake to closure

  • Design and deliver training (conflict resolution, negotiation skills, communication)

  • Facilitate group interventions and team building activities

  • Prepare written products and communications, including reports

  • Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness about MEF services

  • Provide analytical insights, conduct research, and provide professional support to the Manager

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Master’s or Law degree (with a focus on conflict resolution, organizational development, or comparable social science discipline) with 5 years of experience (in conflict resolution, international organizations, are highly desirable) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certificate of professional training as a mediator (40 hours minimum)
  • Experience mediating workplace disputes and or related disputes (i.e. community, legal)
  • Experience facilitating group interventions and or moderating team activities
  • Proven problem-solving skills and emotional acumen
  • Strong theoretical base in dispute resolution, combined with a broad grasp of relevant theory and best practices
  • Ability to translate theory of dispute resolution concepts into practical applications in context of WBG work.
  • Proven training skills and experience in developing training materials
  • Ability to participate in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, to inspire trust and to demonstrate high personal integrity
  • Excellent and proven interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; fluency in languages other than English would be highly desirable (i.e. Spanish, French, Arabic)
  • Must be able to travel abroad
  • Proven ability to promote and contribute to a collaborative team environment, build trust among colleagues, work effectively across disciplines and organizational boundaries including with senior officials, and effectively handle conflict.
  • Additional certification (Behavioral Assessments, Conflict Management, Organizational Consulting) desired.
