World Health Organization is actively working in different health-related sectors to improvise the health of the world. It carries out different operations in socially backward and war devasted zone to boost the health and hygiene of the population. Similarly, a special chamber of the organization has been working in Egypt to prevent the misery and demise of humans due to Tuberculosis. To serve the campaign in Egypt, WHO is looking for motivated, experienced, and highly qualified Medical Officer to join the team in Cairo.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and technical guidance to the countries of the Region to scale up quality Programmatic Management of Drug-Resistant TB Programme (PMDT), TB infection management and childhood TB in line with End TB Strategy goals and targets
  • Manage regional Green Light Committee secretariat at EMRO, organize annual rGLC missions and meetings, validate and disseminate reports and follow up on recommendations and action planning
  • Develop regional PMDT capacity building plans and ensure full implementation
  • Provide technical guidance to the development of national strategies and policies through policy advice and guidance on country-level strategic plans to reach End TB Strategy goals and targets.
  • Lead the monitoring, evaluation and reporting for drug-resistant TB programme.
  • Liaise with national counterparts, donors, development partners (UN and bilateral), and WHO technical departments to harmonize recommendations on policies and strategies related to TB and resolve issues or concerns.
  • Provide support to the regional and country level resource mobilization initiatives
  • Lead the planning and organization of the inter-country meetings, workshops, and training and actively participate in global meetings, as required.
  • Oversee procurement and supply chain management of TB drugs, laboratory and other TB related commodities as per need of the member states
  • Provide required guidance to EMR member states in a complex emergency situation for optimal implementation of End TB Programme components; PMDT, Childhood TB and TB and comorbidities.

Required qualifications

  • University degree in Medicine and Master’s degree in public health or relevant qualification
  • At least 7 years’ experience in communicable diseases including tuberculosis control
  • Ability to analyze information, data and write concise reports
  • Ability to review and revise policies and objectives of assigned program and activities
  •  Broad knowledge of tuberculosis and drug-resistant control and elimination principles, methodologies, techniques, and practices
  • Experience in programmatic management of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis and/or Childhood TB and/or TB and comorbidities
