Position: Country Director

About the Norwegian Refugee Council

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water, sanitation, and hygiene sectors.  The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP. It manages 650 professionals, ready for deployment on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs.

About position

Norwegian Refugee Council is welcoming qualified and caliber candidate to operate as Country Director in the Country fo Columbia. In general, the position holder will be responsible for the smooth implementation and operation of a program in Columbia. The position holder will be operating from Bogota, the capital city of the Columbia. NRC Colombia also oversees activities in Brazil. There is a collaboration with the Venezuela Country Office regarding the response to Venezuelans seeking assistance in the above countries.

In particular, the Country Director needs to perform the following tasks

  •  Take forward decisions to consolidate NRC’s operations, prioritize areas of strategic expansion. Similarly, establish a system of governance that secures compliance with NRC’s global policies.
  • Responsible for representation and country level advocacy.
  • In addition to that, CD leads the Country Management Group (CMG) and is responsible for all in-country activities, compliance with policies guidelines and procedures, and the safety and security of staff.
  • Furthermore, complete all the tasks required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience from working as a Senior Manager/Country Director in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts.
  • Documented/proven results related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, both written and verbal. Also, knowledge of the context in Latin America.
  • Experience in managing a diverse team.
  • Experience from advocacy work as well as with change management
  • Valid driver’s license.
