Programme Management Assistant position is available in the International Tax and Development Cooperation Branch of the Financing for Sustainable Development Office (FSDO) in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in preparing draft programme/project documents, ensuring effective modalities for execution. Prepares and analyses programme/project budget proposals.
  • Reviews and coordinates submissions of programme proposals and budget estimates, ensuring that requisite information is included and justified in terms of proposed activities.
  • Takes necessary action to ensure programme/project documents are completed and cleared by relevant internal and external entities.
  • Researches, compiles, analyses, summarizes, and presents basic information/data on specific programmes/project and related topics.
  • Assists in coordination, monitoring and expedition of programme/project implementation activities, involving recruitment and appointment of personnel, processing travel arrangements, organization of and participation in training/study tours, authorization of payments, disbursement of funds, procurement of equipment and services, etc.
  • Liaises extensively with diverse organisational units to initiate requests, prepare standard terms of reference against programme/project objectives, obtain necessary clearances, process and follow-up on administrative actions and resolve issues related to project implementation.
  • Monitors programme/project implementation at all stages to ensure that it proceeds in accordance with established work plans and timetables.
  •  Ensures availability of funding by reviewing and revising programme/project budgets.
  • Ensures that progress reports and project budget revisions are submitted to all relevant parties.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in programme or project administration, technical cooperation or related area is required.
  • Experience dealing with capacity development projects is desirable.
  • Experience on intergovernmental processes is desirable.
  • Experience on the work of ECOSOC is desirable.
  • Experience in processing recruitment of temporary personnel, or consultants or individual contractors is desirable.
  • Experience with an integrated information management system, such as Umoja and Inspira or other comparable tools are desirable.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
