Programme Management Officer position is available  in the Capacity Development Office (CDO) of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The incumbent reports to the Senior Programme Management Officer of the Programme Development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects, etc.;
  • Also, monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports
  • Directly supports governance arrangements for DESA planning and programming of its capacity development work, for instance the Capacity Development Steering Committee, the Technical Advisory Group (TAG)
  • Above all, supports the planning and facilitation of workshops and meetings, prepares background material, agendas and hand-outs; drafts summaries and minutes on the outcomes of such meetings.
  • Assists with facilitation of inter-divisional coordination by liaising with divisional counterparts and focal points;
  • Maintains a repository of documents and databases that provide information and status of interdivisional collaboration, project statuses as well as departmental demand for capacity development support.
  • Furthermore, researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources.
  • Assists in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies related to DESA capacity development activities.
  • Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
  • Similarly, provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
  • Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
  • Participates in or lead field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in business administration, management, economics or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Also, a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area
  • Experience in operational activities related to economics and social development of the United Nations or comparable international organization
  • Likewise, experience with intergovernmental bodies and with conducting Capacity Development activities is desirable.
  • Fluency in English
  • Knowledge of French is desirable. Besides, knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
