Position: Programme Officer in the United Nations Organization

Roles and responsibilities

  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of various capacity development programs. Programs might be like governance and resource stewardship, professional certification and operational support training program in various functional areas.
  • Monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation as well as reviews relevant documents and reports. Similarly, identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions.
  • Liaises with relevant parties and also identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
  • Research, analyze and present information gathered from diverse sources concerning governance and resource stewardship, operational support capacity development and training programs and knowledge management initiatives.
  • Assists in the development of operational support guidance. It might be review and analysis of issues and trends related to capacity building and operational training, as well as, the preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
  • Undertakes survey initiatives pertaining to capacity development and operational training and designs data collection tools. Similarly, reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
  • Prepares various written outputs, e.g., draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. pertaining to operational support capacity development and training.
  • Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
  • In addition to that, undertakes outreach activities, develops communication and stakeholder engagement plans and uses other tools of effective project management. It will be to design and delivery of capacity building projects of various formats.
  • Coordinates activities related to budget and funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.). Also, prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
  • Furthermore, supervises support staff, including distribution and review of work assignments, training, and inputs to performance evaluation.

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Business Administration, Management, Economics, or relevant field. However, candidates with a bachelors degree with two years of additional work experience in a similar field can also apply.
  • In addition to that, at least five years of experience in project/program management or related area is required.
  • Knowledge of functions, processes and best practices related to capacity development, operational training, and/or knowledge management. Similarly, knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts, and approaches relevant to operational support capacity development, training, knowledge management, and governance.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English. In addition to that, working knowledge of any UN official language will be a plus point.
