Programme Officer, Emergency Response position is available in the Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme in the World Food Programme (WFP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively engage with COs, RBs and within HQ to identify gaps in preparedness, alerting decision makers on emerging risks, proposing integrated early actions to enhance readiness (early action).
  • Provide essential field support and guidance to Country Offices and Regional Bureaus before, during and after an emergency.
  • Likewise, Contribute to the development of concept of operations, project/budget plans, ensuring alignment with wider programme policies and guidance
  • Act as a point of contact for resolution of a range of operational queries and problems within a specific technical area of responsibility.
  • Stay informed on early action and/or emergency operation implementation in countries of concern.
  • Similarly, Deploy to support COs/RBs to enhance readiness and/or emergency response (surge).
  • Engage in and compile good practice/ lessons learned to inform improved preparedness and emergency response.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of emergency operational guidelines and tools (normative guidance).
  • Also, Provide inputs for (emergency) reports as/when required in support of a common operational information.
  • Prepare accurate, comprehensive, and timely reports as well as other visual materials on units’ activities

Qualifications and Requirements

  • An Advanced University degree (Masters) with experience and training/courses in: economics, international affairs, nutrition/health, agriculture, social sciences or other relevant fields
  • A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in combination with qualifying experience (at least 3 years of relevant working experience) may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree
  • Two to maximal 4 years relevant working experience, post-graduate, progressively responsible, job related professional experience is required, with preferred 1-year field experience
  • All paid work experience since obtaining Bachelors degree will/can be considered.
  • Fluency in both oral and written English
  • Intermediate knowledge (intermediate/level B) of a UN official language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and/or Spanish) and/or working knowledge of Portuguese is desirable.
