Job Opening Number: 20 Program Management-New York

  • The Regional Commissions New York Office (RCNYO) is a joint office for coordination, representation and policy advice at the global level for the five United Nations Regional Commissions, namely the Economic Commission for Africa, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, the Economic Commission for Europe and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia.
  • The incumbents report to the Chief of RCNYO.

Responsibilities

The incumbents will perform the following duties as a Program Management Officer

  • The incumbents should participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned programs relevant to the Regional Commissions, etc.
  • They must also monitor and analyze program/project development and implementation as well as review relevant documents and reports
  • Also, the candidates should monitor, analyze and report on relevant policy debates and decisions in UN global intergovernmental meetings
  • Similarly, they prepare various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. and coordinates inputs from the Regional Commissions to joint reports/initiatives;
  • Additionally, the candidates should provide substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc.
  • Also, they undertake and support outreach activities to highlight the work of the Regional Commissions and present the regional perspective of development challenges and solutions
  • Moreover, they will have to backstop coordination efforts among the Regional Commissions
  • Furthermore, they should perform other duties as required.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidates must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the post as a Program Management Officer

  • They must have sufficient knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to a particular sector, functional area or other specialized fields.
  • Also, they must possess an advanced university degree in public administration, management, economics or a related field.
  • However, s first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience is considered.
  • The candidates must have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or program management, administration, or related area, including at the international level
  • Additionally, they must showcase experience in the fields of economic and social development
  • Also, the candidates must have experience in the United Nations System, or any other comparable international or regional organization and their relationship with the legislative and secretariat processes.
  • Also, experience in the working of the Regional Commissions is desirable.
  • Additionally, English and French are the working languages of the United Nations secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Moreover, it’s good to have fluency in a second official UN language.
