The United Nations has made vacancy announcements for the post of Information Management Assistant at the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in Bridgetown, Barbados. Interested applicants can apply until 7th February 2020.


The incumbents will do the following duties

  • Act as a focal point for collecting, organizing, analysis and dissemination of humanitarian information for the Caribbean region which strengthens the capacities of the UN and its structures
  • Also, develop strong links with other IM focal points in the humanitarian community to promote coordination information-sharing between organizations
  • Additionally, work closely with the UNSTs/UNETTs and other clients to identify their needs and advise on information products and services that OCHA can offer to enhance their work
  • Also, maintain the database of humanitarian actors created by the regional office (345W) and promote the use of global standard IM tools and services (HDX, HRInfo, H.ID) within the humanitarian community
  • Similarly, analyze and process data and information into formats and create information products
  • Likewise, monitor and analyze humanitarian situations to identify priority information needs and gaps and possible information sources to bridge the gaps
  • Also, support the Regional OCHA information team in regular products and services to ensure that the Caribbean humanitarian situations and trends are reflected in regional documents.
  • Additionally, in coordination with the National Humanitarian Officer, promote and support the activities developed in the work plan
  • Furthermore, any other duties as may be requested by OCHA Regional Office or the National Humanitarian Officer.
  • Moreover, support the UN Resident Coordinator from Barbados and the OECS in collaboration with the National Humanitarian Officer in researching


The incumbents should meet the given criteria for the post of Information Management Assistant

  • They must demonstrate the ability to compile and holistically analyze diverse datasets and have advanced knowledge of Excel for advanced analysis formulas
  • Also, they must have the ability to write concise and analytical documents based on data evidence
  • Similarly, they should have knowledge and experience in ArcGIS mapping software and relational database.
  • Also, experience with mobile data collection tools is an advantage.
  • Additionally, it is good to have experience in advanced data visualization with proven experience with Tableau, PowerBI or similar business intelligence software
  • Furthermore, previous experience working with an International Organization, UN agencies or NGOs is an advantage.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, the candidates must have fluency in oral and written English.
  • Knowledge of another official United Nations language, such as French, is an advantage.
  • Moreover, they should actively seek to improve programs or services
  • They should offer new and different options to solve problems or meet client needs; promote and persuade others to consider new ideas
  • Furthermore, they should develop clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identify priority activities and assignments; adjust priorities as required

Contract Duration

  • 1 year with a possibility for extension
