Position: Women’s Rights Associate at Women’s Rights Division

Position summary

The Women’s Rights Division of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking  candidates who cares about women and their rights to join the Women Rights Division team as an Associate. The Associate reports to the Co-Director of the Women’s Rights Division and will also support other Women’s Rights Division staff globally. This is a full-time position might require light travel and availability to work occasional nights and weekends. The duty station will be in HRW’s London, Brussels, Amman, Berlin or Nairobi office. The successful candidates must possess work authorization for one of these locations.

Key duties

The position will have to perform the following tasks in particular

  • Provide day-to-day administrative support to the team, including scheduling meetings, making travel arrangements, preparing expense reports, managing multiple contact databases, and preparing for and taking minutes at meetings.
  • Edit, format, and/or distribute news releases, briefing papers, op‑eds, publications and web content and co-ordinate translations of the different products.
  • Also, proofread, format and coordinate the publication process of research reports.
  • Coordinate with colleagues outside the division to ensure timely and precise production of supporting materials for research and reports, such as videos and other multimedia.
  • Assist with coding and updating of on-line documents.
  • Provide event support at news conferences, staff meetings and retreats, and special events.
  • Similarly, coordinate and support advocacy work, including scheduling official meetings, drafting meeting requests, contributing to digital media campaigns, and providing background research.
  • Assist with recruiting division staff and with recruiting, coordinating, and mentoring of interns.
  • Record and process departmental finances as well as carry out other duties as required.

Requirements 

Candidates must have the following requirements in order to be eligible for this vacancy of Associate in Human Rights Watch

  • A bachelor’s degree in law, human rights, public policy, or social justice is preferred, but not required.
  • However, Candidates with equivalent training/experience, extensive relevant administrative experience, and a passion for human rights work are also encouraged to apply.
  • At least one year of relevant work experience is required and more is preferred. Previous work, internship, or volunteer experience in women’s rights, human rights or social justice will be favorably considered.
  • In addition to that, prior office/administration experience and strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent ability to write and edit in English. Candidates with fluency in additional languages strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Similarly, strong initiative, and ability to work both independently and as a member of a team of staff in different countries is necessary.
  • Computer literacy in MS Word and Excel is mandatory.
  • Furthermore, commitment to women’s rights and social justice is highly desirable.
