INTERPOL calls application for the vacancy of Criminal Intelligence Officer in Lyon, France. This position is financed by a third-party, external to the Organization with funding provided by the donor. Although there is a commitment from the donor, the appointment may be terminated prior to 31 January 2022, should the external funding for this position no longer be available. This position also carries, in principle, no expectation of renewal. Any potential subsequent extension will be subject to the terms of the Organization’s Staff Manual, to satisfactory performance and to availability of funds. Selected candidates will be expected to report for duty approximately one month after receiving an offer of employment at the latest.

Position Summary 

The Criminal Intelligence Officer is accountable, under the supervision of the Project Manager and Terrorist Mobility Unit (TMU) Coordinator, of coordinating and liaising with national law enforcement authorities. The incumbent will be expected to follow up on operational cases before and after the operational activities as well as providing recommendations to the TMU Coordinator and other hierarchy regarding further development of the area, including preparing status reports, presentations, supporting operational deployment documentation, and other ad-hoc requirements as they arose.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Monitor and support the regular communication between the General Secretariat and the National Central Bureaus (NCBs) officers. He/She will be in charge to establish and maintain contact with experts in this field within the General Secretariat, in Member Countries’ law enforcement
    organizations and/or in partner organizations.
  • Promote the use of INTERPOL Policing Capabilities by Member Countries and seek intelligence sharing and investigative cooperation. Support and coordinate with the NCB about the planning, implementation, and follow-up of operational activities, deliverables, and processes.
  • Promote the inclusion of available foreign terrorist fighters (FTFs) operational information in existing INTERPOL databases and alerts, working in close cooperation with the team.
  • Design and coordinate the deployment operations within the Project, as required.
  • Identify major criminal and terrorist threats with potential global impact.
  • Prepare intelligence reports for dissemination to Member Countries.
  • Pursue strategic partnerships with appropriate external organizations and institutions.
  • Act as a point of reference for Member countries requiring assistance or advice on the detection and positive identification of members of known transnational terrorist groups and their facilitators.
  • Perform any other related duties as may be required by the direct supervisor.

Eligibilities

  • Three to four year’s education at a University or other specialized higher education establishment ‘e.g. in social sciences or humanities) required.
  • Law enforcement training at the senior level.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience as an expert in terrorism with sound experience and/or knowledge of criminal investigations of terrorism-related matters.
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic is required.
