The United Nations World Health Organization announces the vacancy opening for the Junior Professional Officer in Windhoek, Namibia. The WHO Junior Professional Officer will assist with the coordination of work plan development, resource mobilization, financial monitoring and technical implementation of the Country office work plan and coordinates communication. The position holder will work under the supervision of the WHO Representative in the area.

Responsibilities

The WHO Junior Professional Officer will be responsible for

  • Providing technical support for overall program management, grant management, budget, work planning, including the development, day-to-day operation, monitoring and evaluation of work plans for the smooth implementation of Country Office programs.
  • Collaborating, with technical leads and other teams, in the development, implementation, and also monitoring of the technical, operational and HR work plans.
  • Focusing on the proper use of designated funds to achieve results as per defined indicators; also underpin compliance with project management principles.
  • Providing input to resource mobilization to secure rapid funding for immediate needs; with sustainable, predictable financing for program activities.
  • Analyzing, consolidate and disseminate information on program management.
  • Similarly, contributing to the preparation of monitoring and progress reports, briefings, proposals, reports, communications and advocacy documents required for strategic decision making.
  • Attending various project management meetings, coordinate relevant activities, ensure predictable follow-up on agreed action points with relevant stakeholders.
  • Also, assisting with the development of flexible and innovative solutions to support WHO’s an outbreak and health emergency operations, in line with the IMS standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Furthermore, performing any other incident-specific related duties, as required by the functional supervisor.

Requirements 

The ideal candidate will have

  • Advanced university degree in one of the health or social sciences. Moreover, a master’s degree in Public Health would be an asset.
  • At least two years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Work experience in a developing country preferred. Similarly, combined national and international professional experience in project management in the fields of public health and/or international development is desirable.
  • Evidence of ability to think strategically; to express ideas clearly, to work independently and in the team, to demonstrate a sense of self-assuredness combined with cultural and gender sensitivity.
  • A strong commitment to public health.
  • Interest in adapting to varied physical and professional environments. Similarly, a desire to work with people with different language, national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English.
  • Computer literacy including the knowledge of word-processing, database, application, presentation software, and the internet.
  • Furthermore, the candidate must not be older than 32 of age as of 31 December 2020.
