The UN University calls applicants for the International joint MSc program(Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security)The main grounds of the two-year Master’s of Science program is to provide postgraduate students with detailed knowledge, critical understanding, strategies and the tools required to take an interdisciplinary approach towards environmental risks and human security. The Master’s program addresses theoretical and methodological debates in geography. That helps them to better understand the complex emergence of environmental risks and natural hazards and their implications for human-nature relations.
Fields of expertise include Vulnerability Assessment, Ecosystem Services, Sustainable Development, Disaster Management, Climate Change Adaptation, Human-Nature Relationships, Science & Technology Studies, Development Geography, Geomorphology, Socio-Hydrology, Future Studies, GIS and Remote Sensing.
PRIMARY GOALS – THE INTERNATIONAL JOINT MSc PROGRAM
- The university aims to provide theoretical and methodological expertise in the field of environmental risks and human security combined with practical experiences
- Along with that, it strives to build a strong focus on developing countries/ the “Global South”
- Also, the UN University wants to provide an intercultural and interdisciplinary learning environment
- Furthermore, it bolsters the possibility to engage in ongoing research projects at both institutions
- It also aims to maintain close cooperation with the UN system & international organizations
REQUIREMENTS
The applicants must have the following qualifications for the UN University International Joint MSc Program
- They must possess a bachelor’s degree in Geography or a related professionally certified study program.
- The majority of the courses reflected in the transcripts must be as follows:
- Human Geography and Social Sciences with a focus on spatial patterns, society, development
- As well as, Science methodology and empirical research methods
- Also, Physical Geography, Geosciences and Environmental Sciences with a focus on Earth System Science.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
The promising candidates must fulfill the following requirements in addition to the mentioned criteria for scholarship eligibility
- They must be a candidate from an eligible Developing Country.
- Also, they must have at least 2 years of work experience after the bachelor’s and before applying for the Epos program (i.e. with an NGO, GO, or the private sector).
- Additionally, they must have not graduated from their Bachelor not more than 5 years ago.
- They should have completed no other Masters in a similar field of study.
- Along with that, they must also wish to apply the post-Master knowledge in a career as a practitioner (not in an academic area/Ph.D.) further contributing to the development.
- furthermore, they must be ready to fully commit to starting with the Joint Master Programme once accepted by Joint Master’s selection committee and for funding through Epos.
