Duke University is a private research university in Durham, North Carolina. ‘Knowledge and Faith’ is the motto of the university which was established in 1838. Duke offers 46 arts and sciences majors, four engineering majors, 52 Minors and Program II allowing students to design their own interdisciplinary major. Moreover, the university has produced the 5th highest number of Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Goldwater, and Udall Scholars of any American university. Furthermore, the university has affiliations with 13 Nobel laureates and 3 Turing Award winners. Above all, it is in 26th position in the QS World University Rankings 2019.

Duke offers need based awards from the Office of Undergraduate Financial Aid. Moreover, the university meets 100% of the demonstrated need of its students. The average financial aid package is $53831 per student. Merit scholarships, scholarships from outside organizations, veterans benefits, tuition benefit programs, loans, as well as other sources of aid can all serve to make your education more affordable. Duke University offers a limited number of merit scholarships. One of the scholarship depending upon your academics is the Karsh International Scholars Program.

Selection Criteria

International undergraduates having strong academic preparation, besides the documented need for financial aid ar eligible. Karsh International Scholars are from the pool of international applicants to Duke who qualify for financial aid.


The Karsh International Scholars Program provides eight semesters of full tuition, room and board, as well as mandatory fees to Duke University. Scholars also have access to generous funding for domestic and international summer experiences, including opportunities for independent research both in the summer and during the academic year.

Applying for aid

All students who apply and are accepted for undergraduate admission to Duke University are automatically considered for a merit scholarship. Karsh International Scholars are from the pool of international applicants to Duke who are qualified for financial aid.
