Enter the 2022 McLellan Poetry Prize Competition by submitting your original poem(s) and fee online from this page.


  • 1st prize: £1,300
  • 2nd prize: £400
  • 3rd prize: £150
  • 5 commendations of £50


  • The competition is open to all.
  • However, members of the McLellan Festival Team are ineligible.
  • You may enter any number of poems on any subject.
  • Poems must not have won a prize in other competitions or published at the time of the closing date.

Submission Guidelines

  • Poems should be of no more than 80 lines (excluding the title), in English
  • It should be your own original work (no translations), with the exception of entries in Gaelic, if accompanied by your own English translation.
  • Each poem should be on a separate sheet in black Times New Roman 12 point font as well as in A4 format (one side only).
  • Poems will be judged anonymously and must NOT include the poet’s name or any other distinguishing mark.
  • No alterations may be made once an entry has been received, nor fees refunded.

Entry Fee

The entry fee is £6.00 for the first poem and £5.00 each for subsequent poems submitted on the same form.

IF you cannot pay online, please send a cheque (in pounds sterling) from a UK bank made payable to Arran Theatre and Arts Trust Ltd.


Judging and Winner Announcement

The judge’s decision is final. Neither the judge nor the organizers will enter into any correspondence.

Prize winners will get notification individually before 15th August 2022 and will get an invitation to read at the award ceremony on the Isle of Arran.

Electronic copies of the winning poems will be required from the winners. The results of the competition with copies of the poems will be published on the festival website within one week of the award ceremony.
