The subject of the competition is architectural, urban, technological, or product design that is capable of dynamic interaction with its social, natural, or built surroundings. The main focus of the competition is to develop solutions through a process of changes and adjustments. Achieving such a goal requires an interdisciplinary approach that often goes beyond typical solutions. The winning projects from the previous editions often took advantages from disciplines such as robotics; mechanics; digital fabrication; bio-design and bio-fabrication; computational design; materials science; bioarchitecture; social sciences; industrial design; mobility, and more. Moreover, the participants are free to decide the project’s location, scale, size, and program. In 2019, the Laka Competition ‘Architecture that Reacts’ celebrates its fifth edition!

The Winners of Architecture that Reacts 2020

The jury will select the main prizes winners and honorable mentions. The winner for the year 2020 and the laureates of the main prizes will receive additional cash prizes. Further, Laka Foundation will invite the winners to present their projects during the ‘Architecture in Foyer 2020’ conference at the Solarlux Campus (Germany) on April 23–24, 2020. Moreover, Laka will recognize all of the laureates on its websites, promoted via Laka’s network of partners, and included in future publications related to the competition ‘Architecture that Reacts.’

Moreover, the winners will receive cash rewards as:

• 1250 USD: Winner for the year 2020
• 625 USD each: Laureate of Gold Prize, Silver Prize, and Bronze Prize

Who is eligible for the Architecture that Reacts?

• The awards are open to everyone.
• Participants can submit multiple designs in the same category, multiple designs in different categories a single design in more than one category.
• Further, the participants may participate in teams or individually. However, there is no limit as to the number of participants per team.
• Participants must register each submission separately.
• Moreover, Underage persons must apply through their legal guardians.
• However, persons involved in the awards organization and jury (and their relatives and employees) cannot participate.
• Also, Participants must submit their project in English. However, the participants must submit their projects before the deadline to be taken into account.

How to participate in Architecture that Reacts Competition?

The application process for the Architecture that Reacts Competition requires the candidates to register for the competition online. Only after the successful registration can the participants submit their design. Further, the registration process requires participants to pay the registration fee as well. Moreover, the participants may enter as a team.

• Team of professionals: Early 125 USD; Regular 150 USD; Late 175 USD
• Individual professional: Early 75 USD; Regular 100 USD; Late 125 USD
• Team of students: Early 50 USD; Regular 75 USD; Late 100 USD
• Individual student: Early 25 USD; Regular 50 USD; Late 75 USD

Further, to submit their design, the participants must follow the submission procedure as:

• A single graphical board 24 inches (h) × 48 inches (w), named “Design.jpg”, 150 dpi
• A DOC file with the project statement (up to 500 words), named “Description.doc”
• A DOC file with the participants’ personal information; named “Authors.doc”

The deadline for the Architecture that Reacts Competition are:
