Applications call for Hippocrates Prize for Poetry and Medicine 2021

The Hippocrates Prize for Poetry and Medicine is an annual international award for an unpublished poem on a medical subject – now in its 12th year. The Hippocrates Prize is in 3 categories, with entries in each category open to poets from anywhere in the world: Entries for the 2020 Hippocrates Prize were received from 36 countries – including from 18 countries for the 2020 Hippocrates Young Poets’ Prize. Since its first awards in 2010, the Hippocrates Prize has attracted over 11,000 entries from around 70 countries, from the Americas to Fiji and Finland to Australasia.

2021 International Open and Health Professional categories

In each category: 1st Prize £1000, 2nd Prize £500, 3rd Prize £250, and up to 20 commendations. Entries were received from 28 countries for these awards in the 2020 Hippocrates Prize. The Hippocrates Prize for Poetry and Medicine is an annual international award for an unpublished poem on a medical subject. Poems must be no more than 50 lines in length and not have previously been published in any form. They must be by a living poet, written in English, and should not be translations of another writer’s work. There is no limit to the number of entries.

2021 Hippocrates Young Poets’ Prize for Poetry and Medicine

Entries for this prize are free. Entries for this prize are now open. The Young Poets’ Prize is for poets aged 14-18 years from anywhere in the world. The Young Poets’ Prize is £500. Entries were received from 19 countries for these 2020 Hippocrates Prize awards. The Hippocrates Prize for Poetry and Medicine is an annual international award for an unpublished poem on a medical subject. Poems must be no more than 50 lines in length and not have previously been published in any form.

They must be by a living poet, written in English, and should not be translations of another writer’s work. There is no limit to the number of entries. Young Poet entrants should be aged 14-18 on the deadline – 1st March 2021 – 12 midnight in the time zone of the applicant – and give their date of birth on the entry form.
