Summary

L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest invite short stories, novellas, and prose for the fourth quarter of the story writing competition. The Writer of the Future Contest holds a strong influence over the Science Fiction and Fantasy community in literature. Hence, it is the time for new and upcoming writers to shine, as the masters of the genre will judge their works. Further, the award itself will cover the reach of millions of audiences.

The L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contests have left an indelible mark on the fields of science fiction and fantasy. With more than three decades of developing new professional writers, the impact that the Contests have had on the field is impossible to measure.

The Writer contest accepts submission four times a year from October 1, January 1, April 1 and July 1. In each quarter three winners are pronounced who will receive a cash prize as well as recognization. Further, at the end of the fourth quarter, the Writers of the Future announces an overall winner of the year, also considering the submissions from previous quarters.

Ron L. Hubbard Writers of the Future Winners

The quarterly competition of the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future nominates three winners. The first prize winner will receive a cash reward of $1,000. Likewise, the second and third prize winners will each receive $750 and $500.

The overall winner from the four quarters of the Writers of the Future competition will receive L. Ron Hubbard Golden Pen Award and an additional $5000 cash prize.

Eligibility for the L. Ron Hubbard Short Story Contest

Entrants do not require to pay a submission fee. Moreover, entrants from countries all over the world are eligible to participate in the Short Story competition. However, they must abide by the following rules:

  • All types of science fiction, fantasy as well as dark fantasy are welcome.
  • All entries must be original works by the entrant, in English. Plagiarism, which includes the use of third-party poetry, song lyrics, characters, or another person’s universe, without written permission, will result in disqualification.
  • Excessive violence or sex, determined by the judges, will result in disqualification.
  • Entries may not have been previously published in professional media.
  • To be eligible, entries must be works of prose, up to 17,000 words in length.
  • Poetry or works intended for children are not eligible for the competition.
  • The Contest is open only to those who have not professionally published a novel or short novel, or more than one novelette, or more than three short stories
  • Entries submitted in hard copy must be typewritten or a computer printout in black ink on white paper, printed only on the front of the paper, double-spaced, with numbered pages.

How to enter L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest?

In order to submit a short story/prose, the authors can follow one of the two options. They can submit the soft copy version directly through the online portal. As well as, L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest also accepts hard copies. In order to submit a hard copy, the author must mail their submission by post to:
