Application calls for MIDORI Prize 2020 for Biodiversity Japan

Summary

The MIDORI Prize was established by the AEON Environmental Foundation in 2010 in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Foundation. This year was also the year of the United Nations International Year of Biodiversity. The Prize, an international prize, and the Japan Awards for Biodiversity, a domestic prize, were established with the aim of promoting biodiversity conservation and sustainable use. The prize recognizes individuals and organizations which have engaged in striking environmental conservation activities and awards them.

Requirements 

  • Candidates must have accomplished outstanding achievements that greatly contribute to biodiversity.
  • Similarly, candidates must have conducted work that has an impact on various activities for biodiversity around the world.
  • Furthermore, candidates must have the ability to influence future activities related to biodiversity.

Selection Criteria 

The organize will assess the application and make their decision depending upon the following features

  • International contribution
  • Contribution to conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity
  • Social contribution
  • Long-term perspective and continuity
  • Creativity and originality
  • Openness for civil society
  • Efficacy and influence

Prize and Benefits 

The MIDORI Prize honors three individuals who have made outstanding contributions to conservation and sustainable use at local and global levels, and who have influenced and strengthened various biodiversity-related efforts, as well as raised awareness about biodiversity. Each winner will receive a wooden plaque, a commemorative gift and a monetary prize of 100,000 US dollars to support their work in safeguarding biodiversity.
