The Girls in ICT Rwanda calls nominations for Miss Geek Africa 2020. Smart Africa partners with Girls in ICT Rwanda to expand the Ms. Geek competition to all member states.

About Miss Geek Africa

The MsGeek competition is an annual competition designed to inspire female university/TVET students to think critically and design solutions to issues faced by Rwandans today. In this competition, young women compete based on innovative ideas as well as their ability to develop a certain technology or develop a business idea. The purpose of MsGeek is to demonstrate that girls and young women can also excel in technologies.

About Program

Participating candidates will submit their essay describing the problem they want to solve, how their solution will solve it, a conceptual design, what technologies they are using/should be used to develop it, key stakeholders, how content will be generated and shared. Girls in ICT and Smart Africa Secretariat will select the best solution from every country to participate in the finals. The requirements for entries are as follows:-

  • The solution must be original or an innovative improvement to existing technologies.
  • Candidates must consider that most Africans have limited access to the internet and smart devices.
  • A graphical presentation must accompany the concept note, demonstrating how the solution will work as well as an example of the user interface.

Prizes and Benefits 

The program offers equal opportunity for all finalists to learn and prepare for the day, and each of them will go home with a laptop and other prizes. Moreover, the top three winners will have an opportunity to win cash prizes and other lots of things. In addition to that, they also get an opportunity to participate in the Transform Africa Summit; they will interact with many industry leaders and their governments in the Summit. The organizer covers all the expenses for selected finalists.

In addition to that, finalists will have an opportunity to participate in an intensive training program and interaction with successful entrepreneurs. Moreover, the training equips them with the presentation, public speaking, and critical thinking skills to prepare them for the competition. The winner also receives a wide range of prizes including a cash reward, phone, laptop, tablet, a trip to an international technology event and more.

Requirements 

  • Must be as a citizen of one of the Smart Africa member states; Algeria, Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, DRCongo, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Gabon, Guinea, Kenya, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, South Africa, South Sudan, Togo, Tunisia, and Uganda.
  • However, the girl must be between the ages of 13 and 21 years old
  • Furthermore, contestants must be available to travel to The Republic of Guinea between April 19th – 23rd 2020 for training and the Transform Africa Summit.

  • Candidates must submit solution in English or French to [email protected]
  • The application should be in this format: YOUR NAME-COUNTRY
  • The last day to submit an application is February 29, 2020.
