Mitacs Globalink Research Award 2026–2027: Funding, Eligibility and How to Apply

The Mitacs Globalink Research Award (GRA) is an international research opportunity for eligible undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The program supports research collaborations between Canadian institutions and universities or research institutions in eligible countries.

Undergraduate applicants generally need to have completed at least their second year of study and maintain full-time student status.

Postdoctoral applicants must generally have completed their PhD within the previous five years and hold postdoctoral status at an eligible institution.

How Much Funding Is Available?

The standard Globalink Research Award provides CAD $6,000 per internship unit.

Eligible participants may receive funding for up to two internship units, potentially providing CAD $12,000 in total support.

The funding can contribute toward:

How Long Is the Research Project?

Each internship unit supports a research project lasting 12 to 24 weeks.

Participants may be eligible for a second internship unit, depending on the program requirements and available funding.

Do I Need a Professor?

Yes. Applicants need:

1. A home academic supervisor, and
2. A host academic supervisor.

Applicants are responsible for identifying their own supervisors and developing the research project with them.

Is There an Application Deadline?

The Mitacs Globalink Research Award accepts applications on an ongoing basis. However, applicants are advised to start the process early and submit their application at least 16 weeks before the planned project start date.

How to Apply?

The application process generally involves:

1. Identify a suitable research topic.
2. Discuss the project with your home supervisor.
3. Find an eligible international host supervisor.
4. Develop the research proposal.
5. Contact your Mitacs advisor.
6. Obtain institutional approval.
7. Submit the completed application.

Is the Mitacs Globalink Research Award Fully Funded?

The program is a funded research mobility award, rather than a guaranteed full scholarship. The CAD $6,000 award can support travel, accommodation, research expenses and stipend, but applicants should plan for any additional costs that may not be covered.
