NRF-Mitacs Globalink Research Award (GRA) Programme 2024 (up to $6,000 CAD)
Gain research experience in South Africa and Canada with the NRF-Mitacs Globalink Research Award (GRA) Programme 2024. The GRA programme supports research collaborations between Canada and select partner organisations, as well as eligible countries and regions. Through the GRA programme, the NRF and Mitacs Inc. will support South African and Canadian doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows to strengthen international research collaboration between South African and Canadian universities.
Award of Globalink Research Award
- Each successful applicant will receive a CAD $6,000 research award to conduct a 12- to 24-week research project in Canada.

Eligibility for Globalink Research Award
- Be a South African Citizen or permanent resident;
- Participants cannot undertake a research project at an institution where they have previously completed a degree;
- Be currently registered for the academic qualification indicated as either a Doctoral student or Postdoctoral fellow at a South African public institution of higher learning;
- Be the legal age of majority in Canada (18 years or older);
- Have not previously been awarded a Globalink Research Award; and
- Have identified a research project that is endorsed by the Canadian host university and will be jointly supervised by both the applicant’s host Canadian and home university professors.

Application
- South African or Canadian host supervisors are asked to fill out a webform on the Mitacs website to request an application package. Note: If you are a student or fellow at an eligible institution, contact your supervising professor to request an application package. The supervisors must confirm eligibility with the Mitacs local representative before starting to fill in the application documents.
- The South African and Canadian host supervisors discuss project details. It is the responsibility of the participants to connect with prospective Canadian collaborative partners.
- Complete the application package online on the Mitacs website and submit it to the Mitacs Business Development representative at the Canadian university early to ensure the application is signed by the deadline.
