Applications call for Penang Bay International Ideas Competition.

PENANG BAY: A NEW ECONOMIC ZONE

Penang Bay is an ambitious program to rehabilitate, regenerate, and rejuvenate the water-based assets of George Town and Butterworth into a seamless and dynamic space aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Penang Bay Ideas Competition welcomes local and global innovators to generate inspiring ideas and concepts that will help reimagine the way the people of Penang can leverage their water-based assets in order to drive prosperity and build a resilient city-state over the next 20 years. Penang Bay International Ideas Competition is a unique opportunity to take part in a milestone project at a critical moment and help craft the future of a city.

Prizes

  • 1st Prize: USD $20,000
  • 2nd Prize: USD $8,000
  • 3rd Prize: USD $4,000
  • Honorable mentions with an award of USD $1,000 each x5

The First Prize winner(s) will be invited to present their ideas virtually, the video will be made available on social media.

Criteria 

Penang Bay International Ideas Competition is open to all, professional collaborations and multidisciplinary teams can apply. But projects that are non-original or have been made public prior to the results will automatically be excluded from the final.

Submission

Two submission formats are acceptable:

3 x A1 panels in PDF, JPEG or PNG (max. total 300MB) submitted via the website that includes:

  • Master plans of the PenangBay area.
  • Detailed concept plans, renders, cross-sections, elevations for critical components.
  • Justification for the designs against the relevant SDGs.

Or

A 2.5-minutes video in .avi, .mov or .wmv (max. 50MB) that illustrates:

  • Visualisations of the PenangBay area.
  • Images and narration of critical components.
  • Justification for the designs against the relevant SDGs.
