Applications have opened for the Midori Prize for Biodiversity in Tokyo. Interested candidates can apply for the competition until 30th March 2020.
- The MIDORI Prize is a biennial international prize co-organized by the AEON Environmental Foundation and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
- It honors three individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.
- Additionally, it aims to encourage positive action for biodiversity and inspire others by showcasing the notable work of those it honors.
Eligibility
The candidates should meet the following criteria for the Midori Prize for Biodiversity in Tokyo
- They should have made outstanding achievements that greatly contribute to biodiversity.
- Additionally, they should be able to influence future activities related to biodiversity (Potential).
- Furthermore, the applicants must have conducted work that has impacts on various activities for biodiversity around the world (Impact).
Benefits
- Every two years to three individuals receive the prize at a special award ceremony and each receives a wooden plaque, a commemorative gift and a monetary prize of 100,000 US dollars.
Selection Criteria

About
- Established by the AEON Environmental Foundation during the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity, this year will mark the sixth time that the MIDORI Prize is being awarded.
- The organizers will award the prize at a special ceremony organized in Tokyo on 18 September 2020, prior to the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the CBD.
- Also, on the same day, The AEON Environmental Foundation will hold an event to mark the 30th Anniversary of its establishment, with all past MIDORI Prize winners invited for a panel discussion.
