The tournament will be a swiss style tournament. In this tournament style, players will face players in each section. The participants continuing to win games will face both stronger opposition players and those who were not successful play against each other. Towards the end of the event, the participants are likely to face players at their level. There will be at least 7 rounds. However, the rounds might increase if there are more participants. The players with the same scores are paired with each other whenever possible.
The time control will be 20+0 minutes on both sides.
Each players are assigned colours as fairly as possible. Alternating the colours is ideal. The top-ranked player’s colour in the first round is normally allocated by lot, and then colours alternate down the halves.
The pairing for the tournament will be on the following basis:
- For the first round, the players are ranked according to their last official rating. If you are an UNRATED player, then you might be paired randomly.
- The top player in the upper half is then paired against the top player in the lower half of the field, and so on.
- In the second round, the system uses the same principles to pair each of the three score groups (those who won, those who drew, and those who lost). These pairing procedures will continue through the rest of the tournament.
The tournament accepts the latest FIDE or USCF ID. For the tiebreaker, competition uses FIDE and USCF approved median system. In other words, if one’s opponent score is higher, that means they played stronger opposition and deserves a higher place in the standing.
