UK Government Announces Funding for Research and Innovation in ASEAN

The UK government has announced funding of up to £100,000 for research and innovation projects in ASEAN. The funding is part of the UK’s wider commitment to supporting development in Southeast Asia.

The RIDA (Research and Innovation for Development in ASEAN) funding will support collaboration between researchers and innovators from the UK and ASEAN to address regional priorities such as health, climate adaptation, resilience, energy transition and agriculture.

Projects that are eligible for funding must be:

  • Based in ASEAN
  • Led by a team of researchers and innovators from the UK and ASEAN
  • Aligned with the UK-ASEAN Plan of Action 2022-2026
  • Addressing a regional priority in one of the following areas:
    • Health
    • Climate adaptation and resilience
    • Energy transition
    • Agriculture

Applications for funding are open from now until October 31, 2023. More information and the application form can be found on the UK government website.

This funding is a great opportunity for researchers and innovators from the UK and ASEAN to collaborate on projects that will have a real impact on development in Southeast Asia. If you have a project that you think is eligible for funding, I encourage you to apply.

Here are some examples of research and innovation projects that could be funded under the RIDA program:

  • A project to develop new vaccines for diseases that are prevalent in Southeast Asia, such as malaria and dengue fever.
  • A project to develop new technologies to help farmers in Southeast Asia adapt to climate change.
  • A project to develop new ways to generate renewable energy in Southeast Asia.
  • A project to develop new agricultural techniques to improve food production in Southeast Asia.
