UNESCO-Al Fozan International Prize 2026 | Win USD 50,000 for Young Scientists in STEM

Applications and nominations are now open for the UNESCO-Al Fozan International Prize for the Promotion of Young Scientists in STEM 2026. This prestigious global award recognizes outstanding young researchers and innovators who are making significant contributions to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The prize aims to advance STEM research, education, and international scientific cooperation while supporting solutions to global challenges aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Special encouragement is given to nominations of women scientists to promote gender equality in STEM fields.

Prize Benefits

Five laureates, representing UNESCO’s five geographic regions, will receive:

  • USD 50,000 prize
  • UNESCO medal

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be under 40 years old at the application deadline.
  • Have demonstrated significant achievements in one or more of the following areas:
    • STEM research and emerging technologies
    • STEM education and science communication
    • Innovation and creativity in STEM
    • International or regional cooperation in STEM
  • Submit an application supported by an eligible nominating institution or organization. Self-nominations alone are not accepted.

  • International scientific unions
  • UNESCO Category 2 Centres and Institutes
  • NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO
