The American Chemical Society will be hosting the LEADS Conference, a 3-day event focused on preparing high-potential early career  professionals and students for successful and impactful careers in the chemical enterprise. This event, conceived by ACS Past-President, Luis Echegoyen, will bring together highly esteemed chemists, scientists, professionals, and Nobel Laureates for networking, self-reflection, career exploration, mentoring, and technical discussions.

Ultimately, attendees will depart having

  •  An increased knowledge of the vast array of chemical careers and how they intersect with global grand challenges
  •  An individual development plan to map out and pursue a career
  •  An enhanced understanding of one’s own strengths and unique skillsets
  •  A broadened network of peers and high-profile scientists for future collaboration and mentoring

When and where is the LEADS conference?

We will continue to monitor progress with COVID-19 and make decisions accordingly with safety being an utmost priority.

We are tentatively planning the conference for Thursday, November 4th through Saturday, November 6th in Washington, D.C.

Travel expenses and incidentals will be covered for attendees, including air fare, Visa expenses (for international attendees), hotel lodging, ground transportation, and meals for the duration of the conference. Attendees should plan to arrive on Wednesday, November 3rd. Conference events will conclude early afternoon of Saturday, November 6th.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • A total of 50-75 participants in chemistry-related disciplines/roles will be selected for this event, including the following:
    • Undergraduate students due to graduate within 1-2 years
    • Graduate (incl. Master’s/PhD) students
    • Post-doctoral scholars
    • Early career professionals (within first 3 years)
  • Open to both domestic and international applicants
  • Participants must be fluent in English
  • Participants must be present for the duration of the conference and participate in two virtual one-hour events – one prior to and one after the conference
