The ITU Office for Africa has launched a call for nominations of new members of the Generation Connect – Africa Group (GC-AFR). This aims to engage global youth and encourage their participation as equal partners alongside the leaders of today’s digital change.
It offers African youth a virtual platform to discuss opportunities and challenges related to digital technologies. Through this platform, young people are consulted and able to share with ITU-ATU membership their interests, concerns, and perspectives on digital transformation.
During the first phase of engagement, GC – Africa Youth Group produced a crowd-sourced Outcome Document. It presented the needs and interests of youth with respect to telecommunication development. GC – Africa Regional Youth Group shared their perspectives with the Member States by participating in the Regional Preparatory Meeting from Africa (RPM -AFR) for WTDC-21 held virtually from 29 to 30 March 2021.
Its ambition for the second phase is to continue to engage with members of the GC – Africa Youth Group in its journey to the WTDC-21 Generation Connect Global Youth Summit.
The objectives of the Generation Connect initiative over the period July 2021 to July 2022 will be shared soon.
Young Africans are invited to submit their applications via the online form before March 6, 2022, 11:59 p.m. Addis Ababa time. After a thorough analysis of all applications, the composition of the group will be announced by March 11, 2022.
