Writers’ Workshop Details

The workshop will be continued for four weeks. JIAS is hosting this workshop especially for early-career writers who have a current work in progress and wants to complete or polish them.

In this intensive writer’s workshop, each worker will focus on their individual work as well as reading others work and giving feedback. Besides the experience, the writers will have plenty of benefits through the supportive structure of the workshop. Moreover, it is also beneficial to be a part of this workshop if you are having any writers’ block.

All the participants of the workshop are mentored by professionally accomplished and critical writers. Furthermore,  participants in the workshop will also be able to take advantage of and benefit from the diversity of a city like Johannesburg.

Eligibility

  • African writers
  • should work in Fiction (long and short form), Creative Non-Fiction, Playwriting, Screenwriting or Poetry

Each Workshop Participant will receive:

  • Accommodation at JIAS’ private residence
  • Daily meals
  • also an intensive and immersive creative experience

How to apply

To apply you need to submit the following materials before February 1, 2022.

  • A copy of your passport ID page
  • CV
  • One-page project proposal
  • also a writing sample: Playwriting and Screenwriting (First 10 Pages of Script); Fiction and Creative Non-Fiction (5-10 Pages); Poetry (3-5 Poems)
