UNIDIR Outer Space Security Conference 2026 Youth Video Competition (Fully Funded Trip to Switzerland)

Are you interested in space technology, cybersecurity, engineering, sustainability, or international policy? The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), in partnership with the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), has launched the Outer Space Security Conference (OS26) Youth Video Competition 2026. This global competition invites young innovators to share their ideas on how technological advancements can help create a more secure, resilient, and sustainable outer space environment. Winners will receive a fully funded trip to Geneva, Switzerland, to attend and present at the Outer Space Security Conference 2026.

Competition Theme

Participants are invited to create an original video addressing the following challenge:

How can innovations in space architecture and technical systems contribute to a more secure, sustainable, and peaceful outer space environment?

Applicants are encouraged to present original research and innovative ideas that address modern security and sustainability challenges in space. Topics may include:

  • Cyber-resilient space systems
  • Satellite security and infrastructure protection
  • Data link integrity and secure communications
  • Shared technical standards
  • Transparency-enhancing technologies
  • Open-source monitoring frameworks
  • Sustainable satellite design
  • Space debris mitigation
  • Space governance and international cooperation

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, applicants must:

  • Be between 18 and 25 years old
  • Be from any country worldwide
  • Submit only one entry
  • Create and submit original content
  • Demonstrate creativity and awareness of space security challenges

Group submissions are not permitted.

Video Requirements

Applicants must ensure that:

  • Videos are between 1 and 3 minutes long
  • Files are submitted in MP4 format
  • Videos include audio, visuals, and subtitles in a single file
  • Non-English submissions include English closed captions
  • Content is original and complies with copyright regulations

AI Policy

  • Generative AI cannot be used to create the core narrative, script, presenter, or fully generate the video.
  • AI-assisted tools may only be used for technical visualizations, schematics, renderings, or animations supporting the applicant’s original research.
  • Any use of AI must be disclosed in the submission form.

  • Technical quality and clarity
