The Right Livelihood College at ZEF University of Bonn, Germany calls application from Ph.D. students from Africa to participate in the fully funded international workshop on “Pathways of Environmental Justice in sub-Saharan Africa”, May 9-14, 2020, in Bonn. The workshop will take place from 9 – 14 May 2020, at ZEF. Moreover, it focuses on current research and practices concerned with environmental justice and conflict in Sub-Saharan Africa. The topic will also be tackled in a transdisciplinary way, combining case studies from environmental, social and economic sciences with best practice examples from civil society action and agency.

Objectives

The objectives of the fully funded international workshop on Pathways of Environmental Justice in sub-Saharan Africa is to

  • Strengthen knowledge and understanding of concepts of environmental justice and conflict in a development context.
  • Also, critically assess the situation from environmental, social and economic development perspectives.
  • Present own case studies concerned as well as promote transmission of expertise and experience among Ph.D. students, environmental scholars, and ‘Alternative Nobel Prize’ Laureates.

Funding

This international workshop on “Pathways of Environmental Justice in sub-Saharan Africa is a fully funded opportunity for candidates. The organizer offers scholarships which will cover all costs for international and national travel, hotel accommodation, catering, and working materials.

Eligibilities 

This program is open to Ph.D. students from sub-Sahara Africa who conduct topic-related research from disciplines such as environmental sciences, development studies, ecology, or geography. However, candidates must preferably be in the middle/ end of their studies. Fluent English is mandatory as the program is going to held in English. Basically, the organizer particularly encourages applications from women applicants.

Application 

In order to apply, interested candidates must fill an online form.  In addition to that, applicants must submit 300 words abstract (in English) of their Ph.D. project and a CV.

The last day to fill an online application form is March 29, 2020.
