ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

We are looking for motivated volunteer who want to serve, learn and experience an extraordinary year in our placement. The activities are concentrated mainly on work with children at risk and seniors: -In Kaspian a low-threshold centre that dedicates to young people of 7 to 23 years and runs free-time activities and sport; improves the lives of kids and youth through easily accessible programs; helps them using methods of social work, leisure, participatory and preventive activities, as well as through education. -In the house of social services that provides various services, care and housing up to 40 people who have reached retirement age or people who need the provision of social services and are dependent on the assistance of another natural person. Assistance is in various activities such as therapies; playing board games; exercise and relaxation, accompaniment clients; etc. In our program we plan to host up to 14 volunteers in Bratislava and other cities.

ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS

The volunteers usually share a flat with other volunteers. The flat is ensured by the coordinating or host organization. The flats have their kitchen so the volunteers can cook on their own. Some centers might offer also so meal in their dining room. The volunteers get their pocket money and money for food every month. In case there is a need, the volunteer gets monthly public transport ticket for his/her activities so she/he can travel in the city for free. Travel costs from home and back to the volunteering in Slovakia are traditionally covered according the ESC rules (distance calculator)

TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY

Besides the regular daily activities focused mainly on developing of working skills, developing of creativity, self-discipline, etc., the program also concentrates on non-formal learning, supervision, and organizes also additional seminars and supervision meetings with volunteers. We use various methods for workshops: discussions, fun activities, arts and crafts, music, etc. Part of the volunteering activities and ESC project is also a Slovak language training. English is a basic communication language between the volunteers, coordinator, mentor and supervisors.

PARTICIPANT PROFILE

The project is open for young people between 18-29, flexible and mature, with a open mind, willing to work with elderly, physically or socially weak people or work with children and youth, learn a Slovak language, know different cultures, ready to bring new ideas and take the initiative, open to learn from the others, being in a group of volunteers sharing experiences together, ready for less comfort like at home, respect other people with their condition, abilities and faith, share a flat with other volunteers, etc.
