How is Academic Reading tested in IELTS?

The Academic Reading test has 3 passages. These range from analytical to conversational or factual to imaginative; taken from newspapers, journals, books or magazines. You do not have to be well-versed with each of the topics as they are selected for non-technical people but can be answered by students who are planning to go abroad for further studies.

There is a total of 40 questions to be responded in 60 minutes with no extra time provided to fill the answer sheet. Each question is assigned 1 mark. You do not lose marks for wrong answers. Hence, guessing works if you are not sure with the correct answer.
