The University of Leeds invites students to gain a lifetime experience by attending the Leeds International Summer School 2020 in Leeds, United Kingdom. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to experience the vibrant, student-friendly city of Leeds and explore the rich history, culture and natural beauty of the area. The Leeds International Summer School combines world-class tuition with academic field trips and also includes social activities and cultural excursions.

Module

The Leeds International Summer School runs for four weeks and has two academic modules of each two weeks long. Moreover, each module is worth 10 Leeds credits so by completing the four-week program candidates will receive 20 Leeds credits, equivalent to six US or 10 ECTS credits. Candidates will have a choice of modules in each block. If a candidate wishes to apply for a full four-week program then s/he should select one module from block 1 and one module from block 2. But if candidates wish to apply for the two-week program then they will have to select one module from his/her chosen block.

Eligibilities

  • Students must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.8 or equivalent
  • Applicants must be continuing student at a university, or be a recent graduate
  • Furthermore, all the candidates must meet the English language requirements. The University of Leeds accept the following qualifications and these are the minimum requirements for non-native English speakers of non-EU/EEA nationality:
    • IELTS 5.5 (5.5 overall with no component lower than 5.0)
    • TOEFL (iBT) 80 (80 overall, listening and reading: 18, speaking and writing: 19)
    • TOEIC (all four components are required) listening: 400, reading: 385, speaking: 160, writing: 150
    • Password Skills 5.5 (5.5 overall with no component lower than 5.0)
  • If a candidate needs a visa to enter the UK then s/he will have to apply for a Short-term Study Visa to attend the summer school.

Application Procedure 

Interested candidates must fill the application form in order to apply for Leeds International Summer School. However, candidates must register online to complete the application form. Candidates might need the following documents to complete the online application

  • Official transcript (in English) from their home university.
  • Supporting statement (outlining the reasons for applying to take part in LISS).
  • Copy of English Language Certificate and scores eg IELTS (only for non-native speakers from outside of Europe).

Program Fee 

The full 4-week program fee for Leeds International Summer School is £3,240. Similarly, the fee for the 2-week program (either block one or block two) is £1,820
Overall, the program fee covers the following things

  • Tuition costs
  • Accommodation and as well as breakfast and lunch (Monday – Friday)
  • Module field trips
  • Weekend excursions as well as the social program
  • Sports center membership

Scholarships

If candidates have a GPA of 3.2 or above (or equivalent) then s/he will be eligible to apply for one of 20 scholarships worth £500 to help pay their fees. Candidate can apply by completing the scholarship section of the summer school application form. Early bird discount is also available to attend the Leeds International Summer School. The program fee for four weeks program will be £3,090 to the candidates who submit an application by 1 April 2020. Similarly, the early bird program fee for two weeks module will be £1,745.
