Applications call for Royal Society International Exchange Program 2020 in London

The Royal Society provides International Exchange Schemes offers a flexible platform for UK based scientists to interact with the best scientists around the world. Funds for a contribution towards travel, subsistence and research expenses can be requested for either a one-off short visit to explore opportunities for building lasting networks or for bilateral visits to strengthen emerging collaborations.

This scheme does not support continued research activities between a UK applicant and a co-applicant who was a former colleague or Ph.D. student or to support other existing or recent collaborations between the applicant and co-applicant. Rather, the scheme intends to stimulate new collaborations between scientists in the UK and overseas.

Funding and Supports

The Standard Programme is available for travel to/from all countries outside the UK. The funding available is dependent upon the length of the visit. Applicants may request:

  • Up to of £3,000 for one-off travel lasting up to three months;
  • Up to £6,000 for multiple visits within one year (including a maximum of £1,500 for research expenses);
  • Further, funding up to £12,000 for multiple within two years and cost-share projects fixed at two years. Also, it includes a maximum of £3,000 for research expenses.

Eligibility

In order to apply for this Royal Society International Exchange Scheme, candidates must have the following criteria

  • Hold a Ph.D. or equivalent research experience
  • Likewise, hold a fixed or permanent contract at an eligible organization for the duration of the project. Ineligible organizations include industrial, private and commercial organizations, university spin-out companies and government bodies
  • Also, are based in the respective countries at the time of the application

Collaborations should be based on a single project and travel can only take place between the UK and a country where the overseas collaborator is based. In the case of cost-share applications, applicants must establish a relationship between both parties prior to making an application.

How To Apply

To apply for the Royal Society International Exchange Program, applicants must make an online submissionInternational Exchanges Scheme panel will initially review the applications with the most appropriate scientific expertise. Following this, the panel draws up a shortlist and the Panel Chair will make the final decision. Results are available approximately 4 months after the round closes.

  • International Exchanges 2020 Cost Share round three MOST (Taiwan) and JSPS (Japan): This scheme is currently open to applications and will close at 3 pm on Thursday 24 September 2020.
  • International Exchanges 2020 Cost Share round three NSFC (China): This scheme is currently open to applications and will close at 3 pm on Thursday 24 September 2020.
