Application call for 2023 United Nations Internship in USA. This is a volunteer opportunity is open to all nationalities and the deadline is 16th April 2023.

DESA’s Economic Analysis and Policy Division (EAPD) in the Development Research Branch (DRB) offers a two-month unpaid internship in New York City. There is potential for a six-month extension based on the Department’s needs. The intern will work full-time, five days a week (35 hours), under the guidance of a staff member in the department or office they are assigned to. The daily tasks will depend on the intern’s background, the office they are assigned to, and the duration of the internship.

The intern will have the opportunity to conduct policy-oriented research and analysis on emerging global development, economic, and sustainable development issues. They will also provide substantive inputs for branch publications and other research activities. Additionally, the intern may assist in preparing mandated reports, analytical notes, and other briefing materials. Statistical analysis, including the preparation of tables, graphs, and visual materials, will also be part of the intern’s duties. The intern may also be required to draft written inputs for EAPD research products, as needed.

The 2023 United Nations Internship in USA Core Competencies required for this internship include strong communication skills in both written and oral English, the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, and client orientation. The intern must have a keen interest in the United Nations and its mission as well as a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals from different cultural backgrounds.

The internship is open to graduate students or recent graduates (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). Final year undergraduates (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) may also apply. Individuals who are changing careers, in an early stage of their careers, or unable to apply earlier due to compelling family circumstances, may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Fluency in spoken and written English is required, as is computer literacy in standard software applications and statistical/econometric software.

Duties may include but are not limited to

  • Conduct policy-oriented research and analysis on emerging global development, economic and sustainable development issues with a particular focus on the role of the UN;

  • Assist with statistical analysis including the preparation of tables and graphs and other visual materials;
  • Draft written inputs for EAPD research products, as needed.

  •  Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
