2024 World Bank’s E T Consultant – Digital & Climate Internship at United States
Duties and Accountabilities
The Green Digital Business Line of the Digital Development Global Practice is looking to recruit an Extended Term Consultant (Digital Development) to be based at World Bank headquarters in Washington DC. The duties of this assignment, include the following:
- Play a critical role in organizing and implementing the Green Digital Business Line’s work program through project monitoring and coordination of the Green Digital portfolio of activities.
- Provide project-level support for task teams and country clients on integrating and implementing green digital approaches in operations, including policy and strategy considerations, and to help document the impact of these interventions.
- Help shape the emerging Green Digital agenda by deepening knowledge on how to green the digital sector, including policy and strategy considerations, and how to leverage digital technology for green applications for both adaptation and mitigation.
- Support the dissemination of knowledge through the development of practical tools and guidance materials for policymakers and practitioners.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing through stakeholder dialogue, technical working groups, events and internal (across the WBG) and external communication.

Selection Criteria for E T Consultant – Digital & Climate internship
- Master’s degree in a relevant or related discipline, e.g., economics, environmental sciences/climate change, environmental economics, engineering in telecoms/energy, social sciences.
- Preferably technical and policy experience with an area related to the green digital nexus, for example climate resilience of infrastructure, climate financing, digital monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) systems, energy efficiency management, renewable energy, digital climate or environmental applications and/or use of data for green applications, green procurement.
- Firm understanding of digital technologies, including their policy and regulatory considerations, digital transformation of society, and digitally enabled business models in LMICs, and enthusiasm to stay abreast of developments in the climate digital nexus.
- Practical experience working with digital development and climate change projects, including policy and strategy considerations, in low- and middle-income countries is a plus.
- Knowledge of World Bank project cycle and Climate Co-Benefits methodology is a plus but not a requirement.
- Strong project management skills to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously and deliver in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills in English as demonstrated in a proven track record of effectively delivering technical information and data in a clear and effective manner.
- Willingness to travel if required.
- 5+ years of professional experience in climate change or environmental fields, or in digital development with an interest in climate change and/or environment. Experience with intersection between digital and climate change issues, including policy and strategy considerations, is a plus.
