Application calls for African Population and Health Research Center Internship 2020 for graduate students. The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an international non-profit, non- governmental organization that carries out high quality, policy-relevant research on population, health and education issues facing sub-Saharan Africa.

The internship is an opportunity for postgraduate students to develop a deep appreciation of various elements of research through the attachment in a highly active research environment. The Research Center currently has three internship vacancies starting from April 2020 which will last for 3-6 months.

Role of Intern 

Under the guidance of an assigned supervisor, the intern role will set project goals, create action and implementation-to-completion plan of action. In particular, the candidate will be performing the following tasks

  • Coordinating with the research unit/project to determine the research objectives.
  • Providing periodic project updates and reports as well as contributing to policy engagement.
  • Presenting in at least one Brown bag presentation during the internship period.
  • Submitting a final report one week before the end of the internship.
  • Furthermore, the intern will also submit an internship feedback form at the end of the assignment.

Who can apply?

This is a graduate internship. All the African graduate students willing to undertake a 3-6 months internship placement on  African Population and Health Research Center can apply for this position.

Requirements 

  • Copies of academic certificates and also a letter of recommendation showcasing suitability for the internship.
  • Candidates must specify their preferred top two projects from the list below. More details on the projects are in the APHRC website.
  • Evaluating a service model for management of hypertension and diabetes among low and middle- income patients enrolled on M-TIBA in Nairobi, Kenya;
  • Changing Food Systems in Kenya and Malawi and the Challenge of Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance.
  • Also, the right to Food under the Maternal and Child Wellbeing.
  • Quality of post-abortion care project in Burkina Faso, Kenya, and Nigeria.
  • Furthermore, mapping scholarship and scholars on aging in sub-Saharan Africa.
