Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background; the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period.
Under the Supervision of the Environment under Review Subprogramme Coordinator the Intern will:
- General support for the development of the biennial work plan of the Subprogram Environment Under Review (EuR), keeping communication with focal points in Latin America.
- Additionally, the candidate will ensure smooth coordination and exchange of information with national ILAC (Latin American and the Caribbean Initiative for Sustainable Development) focal points through regular communications and meetings.
- Receive feedback and inputs from Countries regarding the current production of SDGs and ILAC indicators and critical needs in terms of data and statistics capacity;
- Furthermore, the incumbent will facilitate the participation of ILAC Focal Points in all meetings organized by UNEP related to SDG indicators where UN Environment is the custodian agency.
- Also, he/she will develop an assessment of the existing webpages/platforms currently used at the national and regional level to monitor the progress of SDG indicators.
- Likewise, the intern will conduct secondary data research to support the development of concept notes, proposals, policy briefs or activities, and so on…

Education
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
- a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
- b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
- c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
- Additionally, the intern should be computer literate in standard software applications.
- Also, he/she should have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
- Also, have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- Studiest in economics, statistics or environmental science prefered or other relevant fields.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
Excellent writing and communication skills in English and Spanish are required for this internship, since work will require research and communication, including reading and interviews, in both languages. Working knowledge of French is desirable.
